Welcome to Soak Scripture!
About Me: I’m Jolaina Deblock. I’m a wife, mother to three young children, Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in (and heart for) local church ministry, and a joyful follower of Jesus living in Cleveland, Ohio.
About Soak: I created Soak Scripture during a busy season of life with three young children, when old rhythms and habits for spiritual nourishment I’d kept previously weren’t mapping easily onto my days. My desire to live a Jesus-centered life nourished by daily scripture reading and prayer had not changed, but my time and limitations had. As I struggled to adapt to these new constraints, I also found myself increasingly “soaking in” sources that were more life-draining than life-giving; social media and news apps that fostered distraction and anxiety rather than rooting me in what is Good, Beautiful and True.
It was during my third postpartum season that a strange and hopeful thought occurred to me: even the busiest people on earth take showers.
My shower has always been a “thin place” for me— one where I can breathe out my cares in prayer and quiet my mind and heart, even if for a few stolen moments at the end of a demanding day. I’d tried listening to scripture apps, but confess that as a mom whose days are often filled with noise, I longed for something quieter and lower-tech that would allow me to leave my phone out of the bathroom and preserve a sense of sanctuary. Out of these musings, the idea for Soak Scripture was born.
About our products: I’m proud to introduce you to our products, which are are simple, low-tech on purpose, and intended to help quiet the noise and create moments to connect with God through scripture and prayer.
For those already engaged in rich and deep practices of scriptural study, prayer, and community faith life, my great hope is not that our products would replace your current habits, but that they would simply be an additional blessing; a practical way to live out a life saturated in scripture, adding your shower wall to the “doorframes and gates” mentioned in Deuteronomy 6:9. And for those who are in seasons of difficulty or limitation for whom time to soak God’s word may hard to come by at all, my special hope is that our products would serve you deeply right in the reality of where you are: nourishing your faith and inviting you to abide with our loving God.
